The results of the water samples are back and it appears there is a form of blue green algae in the water (not the same as last year) therefore all water activities including swimming are cancelled until further notice.
We had blue green algae problems last year and a preventative solution was applied which made the water lovely and clear but hasn’t prevented algae growth. I am told that the managers of the lake are looking at a treatment for this year to remove the threat. Last year we found that the algae goes after a while so will be back swimming at some point soon
While it is disappointing to swimmers and us as a club these things happen with open water swims and swimmer safety has to come first. We will update this page as we get feedback.
