Unfortunately Upton Warren is cancelled again tomorrow due to algae. Keep checking the website for updates.
There will be no open water swimming on tomorrow due to the green algae. The lake is being treated so let’s hope it is gone by Wednesday. We will update next Tuesday.
However, members note that we have a double swim session at Sansome Walk tomorrow (Sat 4th July). 4 – 6pm. The second hour will be coached by Arran. Hope to see lots of you there!
Open Water Swim Weds 1st July CANCELLED. There is a lot of green algae growth due to the heat and the management, whilst keeping water sports going, think that immersive sports may not be wise. We will confirm if Saturday 4th July is affected on Friday morning. Sorry about late notice but been a recent issue. This is NOT the blue green algae problems we had before.
Worcester Tri Club’s first event of the year took place on Sunday 2nd March. The Peopleton Duathlon was a great success with over 100 competitors taking part and a new shorter distance race taking place as well as the usual standard distance race. Spirits were not dampened by the wet weather and the club received lots of positive feedback from competitors and spectators.
The overall winner of the short distance race in the female category was Tracey Attwood and the male winner was Edward Dursley.
In the standard distance race, prizes were awarded for the following categories; open male and female, vet male and female, super vet male and female and ultra veteran.
Marianne Scott won the female open race in a time of 1hr 35mins and Ben Price won the male open race in a time of 1hr 15mins. The winners of the vet male and female categories were David Mole and Debbie Bradley. The super vet winners were Nick Brent and Nicola Turvey. Rob Reynolds won the super vet category.
Worcester Tri Club members were out in force and produced some great results. In particular Daniel Geisler finished a very creditable 4th overall after only recently recovering from illness.
The club dinner took place on Saturday 8th February which was fantastically organised by Les Bailey and Phil Parsons. It was the biggest turnout yet for our club dinner showing the growing number of members that have joined the club over the past few years. The Vale Golf Club were excellent hosts and guests enjoyed a lovely three course meal and an excellent talk from triathlon commentator and coach Steve Trew.
The club dinner is a chance to look back at the success of the club over the past year and to award the club trophies. The Scimitar trophy for the most improved junior went to James Sheldon and the Arran Stevens trophy for most improved triathlete went to Carl Kendall. The club points champions were Rachel Ward and Lee Oliver. Michelle Parsons won two awards for most outstanding international performance and female triathlete of the year. Neill Crump won the male triathlete of the year award. Nixie Turner once again won the outstanding junior female award for her excellent performances at the British Triathlon Youth Super Series and Ben Harle won the outstanding junior male award. The Howard Peters trophies were awarded to Gill Jubb and Russell Kingston.
The date has now been set for the Club’s Annual Dinner to be held at the Vale Golf Club near Bishampton as Saturday 8th February 2014.
I am pleased to announce that the committee have agreed to subsidise the cost of the three course dinner to the same prices as last year at £15 for adult members (+1st guest) and £10 for junior members. Non-members are very welcome @ £17 per head.

There was a great turnout for Worcester Triathlon Club’s annual dinner that took place at The Vale Golf Club on Saturday 9th February.
The evening kicked off with a three course meal followed by speeches from our club chairman Duncan Jenkins and Jodie Brandwood from St Richards Hospice whose charity we are supporting this year.
The first awards of the night were presented to the club juniors by Henry Walker and Olympic bronze medallist Graham Brookhouse. The outstanding performance prize was awarded to Jack Raine and Nixie Turner and the most improved award went to Brad Law. The junior squad has been going from strength to strength and as a thank you for their commitment, they all received a Worcester Triathlon club beanie hat and drawstring bag.
The senior awards were presented by our guest speaker Clare Woodward. This year, the senior club champions were Rachel Ward and Dan Geisler, who achieved great results at a number of selected races last season. The female triathlete of the year award went to Ellen Hemsworth who also picked up the Arran Stevens cup for most improved triathlete. The male triathlete of the year went to Neil Wicks after achieving excellent ironman results last season. The international triathlete of the year was Neil Crump who achieved a top 10 position at the European Championships as well as breaking 10 hours at Challenge Roth, which is an iron distance event. The Howard Peters Trophy for the club aquathlon at Upton Warren was awarded to Ros Townsend-Hope and Gary Jarvis.
The event was a great success and thoroughly enjoyed by all. Thanks must go to Les Bailey and Phil Parsons who put in a lot of hard work to organise the evening.
