With great regret we have made the decision to cancel the
Droitwich Aquathlon due to insufficient entries. We will be reviewing the
future viability of this race. Please do look out for our other
races which have always been very popular.
Droitwich Aquathlon Cancelled
We have been working hard behind the scenes to get the Top Barn Triathlons ready for 2012 and it goes live TONIGHT at 6pm, at www.entrycentral.com (search for ‘Worcester’).
We have booked the Top Barn Activity Centre for Sunday 24th June 2012 and we have exclusive use of the facilities for the afternoon before and the morning of the race. We will be working closely with the Centre to make sure the race runs as smoothly as possible and we get the most out of their considerable facilities. We have also secured the venue for another 3 years, ensuring this very popular race stays firmly on the race calendar for years to come.
We are also very excited to announce that USN (Ultimate Sports Nutrition) – an international brand offering energy, endurance and nutrition products will be supporting the race in 2012. They will have a team of staff and their branded mobile education centre on site (as seen in the photo above) to provide advice during the event and will also help out with goodie bags and water stations. They may even bring some of their USN sponsored athletes to compete in the race!
We are also talking to Scimitar Sports Clothing about supplying the event t-shirts again and XTERRA wetsuits about further sponsorship and will hope to update you on these soon.
We are keeping the course the same as previous years, subject to approval from the council highways and police departments so the course will be there to test yourself against the recent race winners and your own previous personal bests! Given the success of recent years the committee have also agreed that we can make the race slightly larger so we will be requesting permission for 375-400 entries for 2012. This might mean we will need more marshalling help from the Worcester Tri Club members but given this race is our biggest, most prestigious and most complicated to organise hopefully they will agree that it is well worth being a part of!
We will also be offering an early-bird discount of £5 for anyone who enters the race before 15th January 2012.
We will update you when the race goes live, look out for us in 220 Magazine and follow us on Twitter @Top_Barn_Tri.
More to come soon, enjoy your training!

Top Barn Triathlons – update & press release

Hello and a quick update regarding Sunday’s races.
The Sprint results have now been published on Stuweb and we are aware there are still a couple of eroneous results. If you have a problem with your race splits (with the exception of not being quick enough on the day – we can’t help there!) please make yourself known and we will try and get it resolved by our race timers.
There are several prize winners who were not present at prize-giving and we need to send cheques to. These will be sent out in the next week and we will also publish a full list of results soon.
For those that live in and around Worcester the Evening News is running a report either today (Tuesday 28th) or tomorrow so please look out for it. Tri247 and 220 may also publish reports and we will let you know when this happens.
Lost property – there are several items which haev been reported lost. If you have any lost property or accidentally picked up something that wasn’t yours please drop me a line on gavin_j_vickers@hotmail.com and we will try and re-unite you.
Thanks to everyone for their positive (and negative feedback) about the day – it is always welcome and we need it to help improving the race each year. The biggest change this year was the longer times between the different waves so we would be interested in how you thought this went.
Thanks to everyone who followed the race count-down on Twitter@top_barn_tri – was this helpful on the lead-up to the race?

2011 Worcester Children’s Duathlon Report

Worcester Triathlon Club held it’s annual Children’s Duathlon (run-cycle-run) at Worcester University on Sunday, part of the West Midlands Children’s triathlon series.
The youngest competitors in the Tri-Start category battled it out over a 3km course and Erin Staite of Lichfield City Cycling Club won the female event in seven minutes 29 seconds with Worcester Triathlon Club’s Tom Charles leading the boys home in 7:39.
Tri-Star 1 competitors completed 1.2km run followed by a 4km cycle and a final 400m run. Molly Shermer of Cannock Phoenix won the girls’ event in 14:22 with William Staite emulating his sister’s earlier success in the boys’ event in 13:32.
In Tri-Star 2 Ellie Russell of Oswestry Olympians completed the 1.6km run / 6km cycle / 600m run in 18:46 Worcester’s Ella Crowley finishing seventh. Lichfield CCC’s Harry Yates led the boys home in 17:20 with Worcester’s Jack Raine, Ethan Hunter, Jacob Withington and James Sheldon finishing 10th, 11th, 14th and 15th respectively.
Tri-Star 3 competitors faced a 2km run / 8km cycle / 800m course and in a strong girls’ field West Midlands Triathlon Academy members Sian Rainsley and Megan McDonald dominated finishing in 20:45 and 21:19 respectively. In a close tussle for third place Worcester girls Helen Jubb and Nixie Turner finished in 21:48 and 21:50 with Jubb passing Turner in the final 100 metres. Worcester’s Jordan Prust and Rachel Powell both competed well but sadly both were disqualified for not completing the correct number of cycle laps. Finn Barnes of Cambridge Triathlon Club led the boys home in 21:32.
A final success for Worcester came in the Youth section with a win for Henry Ward.

Peopleton Duathlon Press Article
Worcester Triathlon Club staged its first event of the season on Sunday at Peopleton with the annual Peopleton Duathlon organised by super veteran duathlete and villager Les Bailey.
The vent attracted a strong field who were a little unfortunate to be greeted with light drizzle for the start of the race at 9am.
The race comprises a reasonably tough 7km run starting at the village hall and winding its way through the village and back again to the hall where the competitors then start the two lap bike course making up the total distance of 29km with each lap returning through the village itself. Finally the competitors face a second slightly shorter 3.5km run finishing on the field aside the hall.
The Mens race was a tight fought affair with the lead changing hands on several occasions throughout the three segments. The eventual winner was Shaw Pye from Amazing Feet Running Club in an overall time of 1 hour 18 minutes and 35 seconds. Second was Luke Moseley 1.19.06 and third Joshua Varney 1.21.38.
Worcester Triathlon Club’s newest member Iain Jennings, fresh from racing the road relays event the day before, produced a great performance to finish fourth in 1.21.49 holding off close friend from Evesham, Danny Harris, who came in 5th in 1.22.08.
Michelle Parsons once again dominated the female field racing as part of her preparations for the Powerman USA event at the end of the month. Michelle confidently left second placed Paula Moseley in her wake at the start of the second run to come home in a time of 1.27.35 with Moseley following in second and Stratford’s Alison Bagnall in third.
Other Worcester Triathlon Club members’ results were as follows:
David Jubb – 1st Junior Male 1.24.51 (9th overall)
Neil Wicks – 10th 1.25.10
Henry Walker – 13th 1.27.08
Richard Gourlay – 16th 1.28.37
Mark Elliott – 1st Male V50 1.28.41 (17th overall)
Neill Crump – 24th 1.30.33
Jim Chalmers – 9th Male Vet 1.33.44 (35th overall)
Kirk Denton – 38th 1.34.52
Duncan Jubb – 12th Male Vet 1.35.26 (42nd overall)
Charlie Carroll – 3rd Male Junior 1.37.16 (50th overall)
Les Bailey – 1st Ultra Vet 1.52.11 (70th overall)
Clearly staging the event requires a great deal of cooperation with the villagers and again this year the local farmers group entered a relay team which swept aside the competition to win the relay category.
