Physiotherapy sports injury screening

Injury prevention has become an increasing focus of sports medicine in the past few years. The objective of a musculoskeletal screening examination is to highlight risk factors for injury and impaired performance, such as deficits in flexibility, strength/stability, balance and biomechanics. Following this consultation, based on the Australian Institute of Sport Triathlon Screening, individualised programmes are supplied, aiming to modify these risk factors.

I qualified as a state registered physiotherapist in 2001, and have been working for Worcester Warriors Rugby Club for the past 4 years. A large part of my job is screening players and implementing injury prevention strategies. This process is of value to athletes of all ages and abilities, and will last approximately 1 hour at a cost of £30. If you are interested in the potential to maximise your training and competition, please call Ben Macdonald on 07841 651006 to discuss further and arrange a consultation.

Run technique session(s)

Running form and technique is a neglected aspect of triathlon training, often just taken for granted. The winter off-season is a good time to try some improvements.

I have been in touch with regional coach Steve Lumley regarding a technique session. Steve is extremely experienced with a good reputation, check out his website. Depending on interest, this could be single session or a series held up at Birmingham University or done locally. Obviously, the more people involved, the cheaper it will be per head.

If you are interested email me by Monday 15th December. I will collate responses and co-ordinate the first session.

The Green Bike Company

The GBC specialises in buying and selling quality second-hand bikes. Brands include Trek, Specialized, Pinarello and Colnago.

Fancy upgrading your current steed? As well as direct sales, the company also enables dealers (such as club sponsors Echelon) to take 'trade-ins' against new bikes. They are finalising registration on the government Cycle-to-Work tax relief scam scheme.

Club forum

A club forum has at last gone live. Members finally have the ability to post their own content and engage in inter-member discussions. We've gone with three areas to start with; General, Training & Racing, and Sales & Wanted. These may change depending on demand. There is also a password protected Members Only area under test.

Please bear in mind the main areas are open to the public for anyone to view. Members should follow usual internet forum posting rules - abuse or profanity will not be tolerated.

You must create an account to post. Registrations are currently automatically accepted however if we start getting problems from spam/adverts new accounts will have to be manually vetted. I advise creating your account as soon as possible and get posting!

Free Sports Massage Therapy!

I joined Worcester Triathlon Club earlier this year and to make myself even busier, I've just commenced a Sports Massage Therapy course at the University of Gloucestershire.  One of the requirements of the course is that I clock up 100 hours practical work, so I'm looking for volunteers who would like to receive some free sports massage.

I'm fully insured and keen to get practising from this November, so why not include sports massage as part of your winter training schedule?

Feel free to contact me on 07956 577428 or alison1975@hotmail.com
